E-WAY BILL WITH IN STATE I.E. INTRA-STATE E-WAY BILL ROLLED OUT IN 5 STATES |
From 15th April’2018 i.e. yesterday, e-way bill for intra-state movement of goods have been rolled out in 5 states. The e-way bill for inter-state movement of goods valued over Rs 50,000/- was rolled out of 1st April 2018. For intra-state e-way bill GST council had decided to roll it out in phases starting from 5 states viz, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala.
However, Gujarat has mandated e-way bill for intra-state movement for only 19 items. These items include edible oil, oil cakes, ceramic tiles, iron and steel, processed tobacco, gutkha, cigarette, cement, timber products, tea, marble and granite. Karnataka was the only state which had rolled out e-way bill for intra-state movement of goods from 1st April only.
As per the data collected, since the roll out of e-way bill for inter-state movement of goods from 1st April, more than 91 lakhs e-way bill were reported to be generated till 14th April’2018.
The e-way bill is being looked upon as anti-evasion measure which would boost the tax collections. The e-way bill was first introduced on 1st Feb’2018 but its implementation was put on hold after the system developed certain glitches in generating permits. But since then, the platform has been improved and it is being claimed by the Govt. that it can handle load of as many as 75 lakhs inter-state e-way bills daily without any glitch.
