INTRA-STATE E-WAY BILL ROLLED OUT IN 5 MORE STATES

 

From 25th April’2018 i.e. yesterday, e-way bill for intra-state movement of goods have been rolled out in 5 more states. The e-way bill for inter-state movement of goods valued over Rs 50,000/- was rolled out on 1st April 2018. For intra-state movement of goods, e-way bill has already been rolled out in Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tripura, Karnataka and Kerala.

Now, from 25.04.2018, GST council has decided to roll out e-way bills in 5 more states/UTs viz, Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Puducherry.

The e-way bill is being looked upon as anti-evasion measure which would boost the tax collections. The e-way bill was first introduced on 1st Feb’2018 but its implementation was put on hold after the system developed certain glitches in generating permits.  But since then, the platform has been improved and it is being claimed by the Govt. that it can handle load of as many as 75 lakhs inter-state e-way bills daily without any glitch.
